I’m sure that I will embarrass myself
In the eyes of who I will be,
In the distant days of the future.

I wonder what it’s like that I’ll be
Will I be in a strange place?
I wonder if she will still be with me?

Will I be wearing strange clothes?
Will I have a ring in my nose?
Will I ever write out my dreams?

I know everything has to change,
But there’s a definite range
Of mes I’d rather not be.

CHORUS:
Now you go my way and then I go yours,
Under the calendar, against the wall.
I’m busy these days and you’re busy those,
There is no time to do anything at all.
We go to bed,
Time runs ahead.

When I’m looking back on these words,
having absolutely no clue
what I meant about "change in the future,"

I know I’ll still go on for too long
Like new wave books that got wrong
our flying lives in the future.

For a while the seventies came,
The eighties, they were a drain,
The zeroes are coming to town.

Everything around me has changed,
The world it stopped or got strange.
The eighties never again... will never be now.
